Kids, Drunks, And The Very Old

-->
I wanted to make a few comments about my earlier post…..

I truly, truly appreciate the shout out about my “natural highlights”, and here’s why.

Yesterday I had Olivia take a picture of me so I could have a new profile pic showing off my curls.  I did not post the picture because part of my hair was white and it looked like I was going bald at my temples.  I’ve been noticing it for awhile, but felt like I never had the time to color it and had also convinced myself that I was the only one aware of it.  I was wrong, but I didn’t know it until someone pointed it out.

I think there is a small group of people that can be honest without being malicious.  They are innocent, observant children; very, very old people; and drunks.  These folks actually take your best interest to heart.  Their intention is never to hurt, but just to bring to your attention something you may not be aware of.  This is actually very kind.  It is fair to say that these three groups are sometimes/often lacking in finesse, but they mean well.

As adults we tend not to say anything to each other about embarrassing things.  I think we do this because it will be uncomfortable for both of us.  We would rather ignore the situation and believe that someone else will tell them.

I would prefer if someone would inform me that I have a booger; there is toilet paper coming out of my pants; when I bend over you can see all the way to my belly button; I need to take a shower, my grey hair is way beyond needing a dye; my breath is horrible; my skirt is tucked into my pantyhose; I have food on my face; I have food in my teeth; I have stains on my clothes; my boob is hanging out.

Today it was pointed out that I was way overdue for a bit of color and that was awesome.  The child was concerned because they thought something was wrong.  It was the right thing for them to do.  I believe at no point was their plan to embarrass me, only make me aware of something being “off”.  They were helping.  That shows kindness and character.

When my hair was growing back it was completely white all over.  I went to the retirement home and one of the residents was 100 years old.  She looked at me and said, “Honey, did you know your hair is white?”  I informed her that I did know this and then she told me to do something about it.  She meant no harm, just pointing out the obvious, which she OBVIOUSLY thought I wasn’t aware of.  I thought it was absolutely hilarious.

Let’s promise to tell each other about boogers.  I would rather be told by someone, stranger or friend, than wonder at the end of the day how many people looked at me and thought, “Wow, that’s a big booger.” and then walked away.

Thank you, my little friend.  When I got home and told Thomas about our conversation, busting a gut the entire time, he immediately colored my hair.  It only took 9 minutes to apply.

And because of the comment earlier today, I get to post a new picture, minus the white.

Thank you.
